Girl, 17, Seriously Hurt In Route 287 Crash: Police (Update)

A 17-year-old girl suffered serious injuries in a crash on Route 287 that closed both sides of the highway in Somerset County Friday, Jan. 12, police said.

The girl was heading south in a Ford Ranger pickup truck in the exit lane for Exit 10, while a Toyota passenger car was heading south in the right lane around 1:15 p.m., New Jersey State Police Sgt. Charles Marchan said.

The Ford entered the right lane and struck the Toyota. As a result of the crash, both vehicles veered off the road to the left and impacted a guardrail. 

The Ford continued and overturned. The 17-year-old girl from South Plainfield suffered serious injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
